BRANDT-DAROFF EXERCISES (FOR BPPV)
Brandt-Daroff Exercises are an adjunct treatment for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (aka BPPV). Performing these exercises daily can help attenuate symptoms of BPPV for patients whose BPPV is not treatable with the Epley Maneuver. Please see below for more information on how to perform these exercises.
INSTRUCTIONS
Please perform the entire sequence 5 times every day. Please note that it is normal to experience vertigo during the exercise. If you are at risk of falling, you may perform these exercises with somebody assisting you.
To do the Brandt-Daroff exercises, follow these steps:
Start by sitting down on the edge of a couch or a bed.
Lie down onto your left side, turning your head to look up as you do so. Try to do both of these movements within 1 or 2 seconds. Keep your head looking up at a 45-degree angle for about 30 seconds.
Sit up for 30 seconds.
Repeat these steps on your right side.
Do this four more times, for a total of five repetitions on each side.
Sit up. You may feel dizzy or light-headed, which is normal. Wait for it to pass before you stand up.
